“In The Name Of Love” by Sharon Redd – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The 1982 disco anthem, “In The Name Of Love” by Sharon Redd is probably one of the best club records ever.

Produced by Eric Matthew and arranged by Jay Leon this track never looses it’s magic and impact. Thanks to Sharon’s outstanding vocal performance and the moving lyrics “In The Name Of Love” continues her legacy after her passing in 1992.

I have taken excerpts from the 1995 film, “Waiting To Exhale” - directed by Forest Whitaker and stars Whitney Houston, Angela Basset, Lela Rochon and Loretta Devine. The film portrays the challenges in the game of love with four beautiful women – the joy, tears, heartbreak and emotion. “In The Name Of Love” always struck me as a wonderful narrative for the drama.

Dedicated to Katie Perry (Sharon’s mother) – a wonderful lady who continues to be an uplifting energy in my life

"Computer Game" by Yellow Magic Orchestra - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi and Ryuichi Sakamoto were Yellow Magic Orchestra – their debut solo album in 1977 was a conceptual project, which blended an exotic oriental sound with electronics. In 1978 they released a self-titled album that contained an innovative electronic dance track, “Computer Games”. This instrumental contained many keyboard elements very much in a style and effort that electronic projects similar to the German band Kraftwerk.

I have taken this wonderful piece of music and placed it below visuals from the 1968 Japanese monster film, “Majin, The Monster Of Terror” - a tale of a small town being ruled by a bad Samurai leader who means his waterloo with a sacred giant stone statue that wrecks havoc when called upon to save the village. It is a film I can remember seeing a child and the visions of Majin’s horrifying transformation to life were never forgotten.

The blending of Yellow Magic Orchestra and “Majin, The Monster of Terror” is an opportunity to hear a progressive electronic dance track and action and adventure on the same ticket.

"Calling Planet Earth" by The Dennis Coffey Band - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The Dennis Coffey Band released “A Sweet Taste Of Sin” in 1978 – arranged and produced by Mr. Dennis Coffey. The project features Coffey’s outstanding work on guitars as well.

The funky track is a spin on a sci-fi encounter in this Disco Video Mix along with the 1968 film, “Planet Of The Apes” staring Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter. The script was originally written by Rod Serling But many changes were made to create a more primitive ape society rather than a futuristic as Serling envisioned.

I have used the theme of Coffey’s disco number as the outline for the science fiction premise of the film in a lighter end.

RainMaker ReStructures are Mine :)

I find it quite flattering - in the past few days I have received several links to sites with Donna Summer remixes for download. They are titled "RainMaker ReStructure" - but they are actually mixes that I have done in the past 2-3 years.

I do find it quite flattering - just wanted to make a note of it if anyone were to come across any.

They are always available at www.shadesofseventies.com or www.restructuremix.com

Thanks for all of you support and sharing!

Good energy to you.

"Let's Go Round Again" by Average White Band - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Average White Band was a rhythm and blues/soul group from Scotland whom shared success in 1974 with a single titled, “Pick Up The Pieces”. The track created a path for AWB to last throughout the late 80’s.

“Let’s Go Round Again” was a track released in 1980 and produced by David Foster who helped to deliver a pop-dance track that became an underground dance hall hit later in the mid-80’s. The track delivers a great vocal, wonderful string arrangements and a power message.

Taking the 1980 film titled, “Somewhere In Time” with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour – a time travel romance story written by Richard Matheson. Scenes from the fantasy-like film accent “Let’s Go Round Again” with sensitivity and purpose. I was happy to bring the two together.

Prince Indicates He Approves of God Striking Down Gays

http://www.towleroad.com/2008/11/prince-indicate.html

Oh, and all that religious music he made like, "Nasty Girls" is so holy - Glenn Rivera

And all those other evil sinners.

R&B singer Prince, who's now a Jehovah's Witness, indicates in a 'Talk of the Town' piece in The New Yorker that he agrees with the most anti-gay interpretations of the Bible:

"Recently, Prince hosted an executive who works for Philip Anschutz, the Christian businessman whose company owns the Staples Center. 'We started talking red and blue,' Prince said. 'People with money—money like that—are not affected by the stock market, and they’re not freaking out over anything. They’re just watching. So here’s how it is: you’ve got the Republicans, and basically they want to live according to this.' He pointed to a Bible. 'But there’s the problem of interpretation, and you’ve got some churches, some people, basically doing things and saying it comes from here, but it doesn’t. And then on the opposite end of the spectrum you’ve got blue, you’ve got the Democrats, and they’re, like, 'You can do whatever you want.' Gay marriage, whatever. But neither of them is right.' When asked about his perspective on social issues—gay marriage, abortion—Prince tapped his Bible and said, 'God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, 'Enough.''"

National Protest of Prop 8: San Diego CA - November 15, 2008

FROM PRESS RELEASE:

SAN DIEGO, CA -- Today's March and Rally for Marriage Equality, an
event organized nationally by JoinTheImpact.com and locally by a team
of grassroots volunteers, drew 20,000 protestors, which was the
largest group in California. The crowd marched peacefully along the
2-mile route and the San Diego Police Department did not report any
arrests among participants.

A team of 100 volunteers, desigated with specially created teeshirts,
helped to control the crowd. The San Diego police department thanked
Sara Beth Brooks, the head of the volunteers who organized this march,
for her commitment to a peaceful march, and for the clean up efforts
made by Brooks and her team at their Rally location at County
Administration. The rally site was left exactly as it was found --
without trash or litter of any kind.

A 16,000 square foot gay pride flag was created by 3,000 volunteers
who held pieces of 2x3 posterboard in rainbow colors above their
heads, being cued by speakers to "Show Us Your Pride!" The flag was
captured from the air by several news helicopters.

"This is a win today for the Marriage Equality Movement," said Brooks.
"We had a peaceful, productive protest and it happened without
incident. The San Diego Police Department were extremely helpful and
visible at our event. We worked closely with them to help this event
remain peaceful."

The marchers occupied more than one mile of roadway space; several
lanes of traffic were closed along the march route.

The rally that followed at County Administration Building had a docket
of speakers from all communities -- African American, Latino, and
faith communities. The rally concluded with civil rights lawyer
Gloria Allred, who encouraged the crowd to chant, "We shall overcome!"

“Reincarnation (Coming Back For Love)” by People Like Us – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Reincarnation (Coming Back For Love)” by People Like Us – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

People Like Us is a group produced by Paul Crossley and Terry Owen – a large part of the Passion Records dance movement of the mid-80’s. The sound of rolling drums and orchestral keyboards.

“Reincarnation (Coming Back For Love)” was their second single release, which began a fan base for many hardcore dancers and DJs awaiting the next release. The track is simple and moving – a love shared so deep that returning to this existence is well worth it.

I have taken the 1977 horror film, “Audrey Rose” which deals directly with a spiritual reconnection with our world after tragic death. A bit dramatic – yet it fits into my left-field Disco Video Mixes.

The film stars Marsha Mason, John Beck and Anthony Hopkins and was directed by Robert Wise. It has some haunting moments and is probably better read than seen, since the subject and believe is deeper than visuals.

Prop 8 - March for Equality - November 8, 2008

This March was assembled in 2 days and drew 10,000 participants. The passing of Prop 8 we feel is unfair to gays and lesbians - this is our time to stand up for our constitutional rights. We will do what it takes.

The march went from Hillcrest to North Park - 6 miles - and then onto Morley Field for a rally.

It was a peaceful march - no arrests or problems.

“Don Quichotte by Magazine 60 – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Magazine 60 were a French electro-synth band composed of Dominique Regiacorte and Jean-Luc Drion (Drion, Chocolat's, Discotheque). This duo created 1984’s dance track, “Don Quichotte” that became an instant club hit thanks to its catchy keyboard riffs and clever theme.

I have taken the 1972 United Artist film version of the Broadway play, “Man Of LaMancha” with Peter O’Toole, Sophia Loren and James Coco and blended the two for a strange yet somewhat connected Disco Video Mix.

The musical was suggested by the classic novel Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes, but more directly based on Dale Wasserman's 1959 non-musical television play, I, Don Quixote, which combines a semi-fictional episode from the life of Cervantes with scenes from his novel.

OBAMA - THE ANTI-CHRIST?

I have been researching Obama and his victory on using Google - and so many religious fanatics are convinced that he is "The Anti-christ"!!! (ooo!)

I am not religious in any way and do not believe in any of the nonsense that religion teaches -but if it were fact: How can Obama be the so-called "Anti-Christ" when the real one, if any (Bush) is now finishing up?

OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA! WE CAN DO IT!

NO on Prop 8 March - November 1, 2008

California's Prop 8 is a big part of election this year.

Our NO ON PROP 8 Dinner party was a small intimate table with our closest friends. 2 couples who were married under the new passed law - it is strange now that the religious fanatics and conservatives want to overturn the decision.

These are pictures from a dinner which was orchestrated by my partner, Ken and was incredible. Following dinner we viewed a video of our friends, Dale & Lou's wedding ceremony held 2 weeks ago - it was the first time they watched the footage also. Seeing it on the big screen was fun!

Following dinner we joined our community in a march in Hillcrest at the Gay & Lesbian Center to show our support. 7,000 people showed up for the candlelight march - including our mayor, Jerry Sanders along with his lesbian daughter.

It was great to see allot of young people in support of voting NO on PROP 8 - it was a very uplifting event.

“Jungle DJ” by Kikrokos – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Euro-disco was the crowning glory for disco music in the late seventies. Artists like Cerrone, Alec R. Costandinos, Boris Midney and Alan Hackshaw brought much of their talent and dedicated their focus on large disco ensembles performing as orchestras.

Kikrokos is a studio conglomeration of musicians produced by Andre Allet, Michel Elmosnino and Patrick Sesti included Slim Pezin (Voyage). The project was recorded at Studio Des Dames in Paris. Very similar to Cerrone’s standards and an even bet that his earlier projects were a big influence.

“Jungle DJ And Dirty Kate” is the LP and the title cut “Jungle DJ” is blended thoroughly with Walt Disney’s 1997 film, “George Of The Jungle” starring Brendan Fraser and Leslie Mann. The film based on 1967 animated television series by the same name.

The track “Jungle DJ” is a beautiful disco number – this being the 12” disco single wonderfully remixed by Jim Burgess. It works very well with “George Of The Jungle” since the premise is similar.

“R.O.E.” by Scarecrow – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

SPECIAL HALLOWEEN 2008 EDITION

New Beat dance music was generated in Belgium and became apart of the late 80’s dance genre. Many producers with electronic knowledge and wizardry began creating dance music with a darker and ambient feel.

Scarecrow was a project produced by Talla 2XLC who had his hands in many New Beat projects including many remixes. His masterful sound was an industrial werk with ominous and underground sound.

I have taken the terrifying 1979 film, “The Amityville Horror” with James Brolin, Margot Kidder and Rod Steiger to create a small treat for Halloween 2008. The dark side of Disco Video Mix with a left-field track.

"R.O.E." was released in 1989 and was the B-side to Scarecrow's "Black Door"

“(Everybody’s) Dancing All Over The World” by Busta Jones – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Busta Jones was featured on Gino Soccio’s 1979 “Outline” LP performing as bass guitar. Pairing with Pat Deserio and co-producing by Soccio he released “(Everybody’s) Dancing All Over The World”. This track helped to keep the disco beat alive on many dance floors with its electronic feel and funky bass line. Quite similar to what Jones and Deserio were creating with Bombers (“Everybody Get Dancing” – which featured Busta on vocals).

Busta Jones also produced Nona Hendrix’s 1981 single, “Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart” along with Jerry Harrison.

This track has been combined with 1978 disco feature film, “Thank God It’s Friday” featuring Donna Summer and The Commodores. The film set the disco scene quite adequately during the peak of disco. It has a light and comical view of the world of lights and disco beats.

The film was directed by Robert Klane.

“Livin’ It Up” by Bell & James – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The weekend is the weekend – Friday or Saturday.

Bell & James 1978 disco hit “Livin’ It Up (Friday Night”)” is still a classic on the disco round or old school. It emphasizes the reason discotheques became the relaxation spas of the 70’s.

This combination of Robert Stigwood’s 1977 film, “Saturday Night Fever” along with John Travolta and repeats the era again with a twist on the dance floor. “Fever” was never a pro-disco film – there were many implications of doom and despair. I have attempted to add more of the excitement of the dancing and the weekend flair into this Disco Video Mix.

“Watch Out For The Boogie Man” by Trax – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

This song comes from the 1978 LP titled “Watch Out” produced by Pete Bellote and Keith Forsey – two talented producers and musicians that made a mark in the late 70’s and 80’s with their affiliation.

“Watch Out For The Boogie Man” is mixed with John Carpenter’s horror classic, “Halloween” to create a parody or terror for this Halloween season. The dance track refers to the man on the dance floor and the film as we all know, is that horrible little boy who loves masks and knives.

Jamie Lee Curtis stars in the film and makes her debut as the “scream queen” – even though the song has a lighter feel about it there is no hiding the fact that this film began a whole episode of films attempting the achieve the same effect. As well as a parody of likes that was another hit in the millennium.

"Forbidden Love" by Madleen Kane - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Madleen Kane’s “Forbidden Love” is the outline for her 1979 LP “Cheri” – it featured a dance medley outlining the passion and desire of “Forbidden Love”.

The album was produced by Michaële, Paul & Lana Sébastian (Theo Vaness, Lenore O’Malley, Pacific Blue) and featured many musicians from classic disco sessions from Munich, Germany including Thor Baldursson and Marc Chanteraeu – as well as a fantastic mix by Jim Burgess.

The song has always been the suspect of not only being a theme for a 3-sided love affair, but also that of gay or homosexual love. In1987 I missed a film titled “Maurice” with James Wilby, Hugh Grant and Rupert Graves based on the novel by E. M. Forster. It is tale of homosexual love in early 20th century England when it was referred to as “immoral”. By religious standards, no doubt.

Phil from Multiply had asked me to view the film and use it in a Disco Video Mix – this is the product of that request. I cannot thank Phil enough for bringing this film to mind – it is well done and well deserved to be a classic in not only gay cinema but that of the words of a great dance standard: “How can stop it?”

“Maurice” was directed by James Ivory

“Superman” by Herbie Mann – Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

In 1977 Celi Bee and The Buzzy Bunch recorded “Superman – Herbie Mann took on a disco production produced by Patrick Adams and featured a cover of the song. It was an instant hit on dance floors again.

The track utilized Mann’s captivating flute talents and created a flowing feel in this new production. Adams included his disco production stamp with strings and non-stop percussion.

I have taken the 1978 film version of “Superman” directed by Richard Donner and pieced together a montage to move along close to this disco number. Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder starred in the blockbuster movie.

"Pinocchio" by Masquerade - Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Boris Midney was the conductor of disco music’s innovative edge from 1978 with the introduction to his new style of dance music with USA European Connection’s “Come Into My Heart/Good Loving”.

In 1979 Midney created a studio project using the 1883 tale The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, which was adapted by Walt Disney in 1940. This disco operetta was in the vein of works such as “Romeo and Juliet” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” by Alec R. Constandinos – but with Midney’s unique style of composition and arrangements. Vocals are by Chequita Jackson and Kevin Owens.

I have taken Walt Disney’s classic and placed it on the same canvas with Midney’s now underground classic disco works. This is intended to make you feel like a child at heart, again. Pure fantasy and escape.

The 1963 Alfred Hitchcock horror classic, “The Birds” is the outline for The Salsoul Orchestra’s disco-fied Russian-ballet, “The Firebird” by Stravinsky from 1910.

“Magic Bird of Fire” is a wonderful outline for the disco symphony that made disco music widely acceptable for its layered disco arrangements. The 1977 LP “The Journey Continues” was produced by Vincent Montana, Jr. and also featured “Runaway” with Loleatta Holloway, their Grammy winning cover of Earth Wind and Fire’s “Getaway”, as well as the 1976 theme from the Montreal Olympics.

"Fire Night Dance" by Peter Jacques Band - Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Peter Jacques Band brought a new energy to disco music in 1979 - a fresh electronic fusion which paved a new direction for dance music.

I have taken their track “Fire Night Dance” from the LP by the same name and paired it with the 1983 film, “Stayin’ Alive” with John Travolta and Directed by Sylvester Stallone.- the show in the film titled, “Satan’s Alley” seemed appropriate for this “Fire Night Dance”.

It marks not only a period where Donna is recognized as an artist as well as a vocalist. The production by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte assisted by the arrangements by Bob Esty, make this project one that is well lasting in the disco realm.

I have taken the 1950 Walt Disney classic, “Cinderella”, which “Once Upon A Time” is a disco opera based on the outline and created a small tale using the outline of Donna’s magical dance number.

“Panic!” by French Kiss – Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The 1979 Simon Soussan production of French Kiss is paired with the 1978 musical, “Grease” starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

A strange mix of dance periods yet the same romantic theme of uncontrollable love. I have found a few areas of “Grease” where “Panic” is appropriate.

French Kiss was Jessica Williams, Lamar Stevens and Muffi Durham – an ensemble very familiar to Soussan’s production of Arpeggio – yet the energy of “Panic!” is still one disco music classics during the high energy peak of the period.

In 1983, the master of punk-funk, Mr. Rick James gave us his female interpretation of dance: The Mary Jane Girls.

This funky ensemble bridged the gap between funk and dance rhythms with their first LP simply titled, “Mary Jane Girls” – one of the first singles, “Candy Man” is a delicious blend of James’ soulful and funky style.

Now one of the earliest “old-school” classics this track is paired with scenes from David L. Wolper’s 1971 classic, “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” starring Gene Wilder, Jack Albertson and Peter Ostrum, which is was based on the 1964 novel, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Ronald Dahl.

EASTERN, 6 PM PACIFIC

With host, Peter Godbold

Club diva and messenger of Club Music, Amuka joins Peter for an in depth conversation on her career and her music.

DON'T MISS IT!

When songwriter and vocalist Amuka (Sheila Brody) sings, she transports to another place, as each chord of her voice touches a tender zone in the heart. Her tone is familiar - her words too, as they stir deep down in the soft part of your wounded soul. She makes your heart joyful, makes you shout, as she disperses soothing medicine to make everything alright through lyrics in which she tells the story of a woman whose spirit cannot be broken. They are stories we can all relate to.

“Supernature” by Cerrone – Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Cerrone’s 1977 tour de force, “Supernature” is still considered one of the finest electronic disco compositions. It is.

With his mastermind and talented musicians, Cerrone created an album, which marked the coming of disco in its perfect form. This track has been reworked and re-recorded, but never with the same impact as the original.

I have taken the song and paired it with the 1977-film “Island Of Dr. Moreau” starring Burt Lancaster, Michael York, Nigel, Richard Basehart and Barbara Carrera. The theme is obviously in the same vein as being the demise of mans idea for controlling nature.

This video mix touches closely at a time when technology allows us to see how nature exists along side of us – and not for us.

Dedicated to Rick in Lincoln City, Oregon
