RETRO-FLICK: "Girl In Gold Boots" - PREVIEW

Girl in Gold Boots is a 1968 crime/drama film about the seedy underworld of Go-Go dancing, directed by Ted V. Mikels, who also directed The Astro-Zombies.

REISSUE: "Carry On, Turn Me On" by Space - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Didier Marouani and Roland Romanelli is the French band, Space. Their 1977 disco hit, "Carry On, Turn Me On" was a deep trance-like song with a sensual feel. Vocals perfumed by Madeline Bell enhance their composition with ecstasy and a climatic build. It is now an underground classic.

Taking the 1984 Ken Russell film, "Crimes Of Passion" and patching the eroticism of "Carry On, Turn Me On" was a concept introduced by Ken Emmons. The idea was immediately taken and placed in a Disco Video Mix. The film stars Kathleen Turner, Anthony Perkins and John Laughlin - it is a story of a woman who explores her sexual fantasies in an underground world of fantasies that soon become quite terrifying.

REISSUE: “Chance To Dance” by Lemon – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Lemon is producer Kenny Lehman and a studio project assembled in 1978. Lehman worked with Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards on their first LP “Chic” featuring the disco classic, “Dance, Dance, Dance” – if you listen closely to the Lemon project you can hear a touch of the first Chic album you can hear his influence.

“Chance To Dance” is from the Lemon album and was the second song to receive disco radio play during its release. Vocals on the project feature David Lasley, Diva Gray, Lani Groves and the late, Luther Vandross.

I have taken the 1984 film, “Body Rock” starring Lorenzo Lamas in another New York street dance themed story of a break-dancer looking for a “break”. It is a silly film but does have the moves of the time. The dance etiquette works well with Lemon’s “Chance To Dance”.

“Got To Find A Disco” by Love Exchange – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Love Exchange is a disco group from Greg Carmichael – the single “Got To Find A Disco” was released in 1978 on Dance Disk Records. It is a fast-funky track with the uplifting and underground feel of high energy disco music.

I have taken the 1978 disco-comedy “Record City” and blended it with the Love Exchange single. The film’s stars Ed. Begley, Jr., Rick Dees and Sorrell Booke. It is a silly camp film using a disco soundtrack to cash in on the disco boom. It does however provide a nice disco scenic realm for the disco single.

REISSUE: “Winners” by Kleeer – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Kleeer is a band originally formed in 1972 under the name Pipeline – they became one of the new disco groups in 1978 with their single “Keeep Your Body Workin’” – which is now an old-school classic. I have taken their follow-up single “Winners” from 1980 and placed it into a simple Disco Video Mix.

The backdrop for this play is the 2000 independent film “Best In Show” starring Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara. The film is a satire on a prestigious dog show competition and the owner’s sometime insane behavior. It gives this disco track a bit of fun and outrageous humor.

It is hard to believe that criminals in prison can meet someone ONLINE (I have read about it and seen it on television shows) and get married in prison but gays and lesbians cannot! THIS IS APPAULING! I FIND IT, AS A GAY MAN, TO BE INSULTING THAT I DO NOT DESERVE THE SAME RIGHTS THAT A CRIMINAL HAS!

IT IS NOT HARD TO SEE: Romney’s name is an anagram – If you work it around it spells exactly what he is after for himself and his supporters: M-O-N-E-Y! – Forget the people – they are third in line.

REPs are now stating that Obama is attempting a “vicious attack” on Romney – Obama's campaign is just stating the facts. That is what is destroying Romney’s credibility. NO ATTACK IS NEEDED - ROMNEY IS WHO HE IS…and it isn’t good!

REISSUE: "Maybe This Time" by Norma Lewis - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Norma Lewis released her cover of "Maybe This Time" (from "Cabaret") in 1983 - produced by Marvin Howell (www.keepthemusicplayin.com) - this blockbuster anthem was a sign of the early 80's that disco music was moving into a new phase.

Along with my partner, Ken we decided to use the original scenes from "Cabaret" along with the drama of this disco classic.

The film stars Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joey Grey - it was released in 1972 and was directed by Bob Fosse - it was derived from a Broadway production in 1966.

REISSUE: “Passion” by The Flirts - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The 1982 camp dance track, “Passion” by The Flirts is brought back into it’s place with scenes form the 1981 suspense film, “Body Heat” starring Kathleen Turner and William Hurt. Lawrence Kasden directed this sensual drama, which outlines the involvement of a married woman who takes a lover, and he becomes the mouse for this cat.

The disco track “Passion” was also one of produced, artist Bobby Orlando’s first attempts to create his early 80’s dance sound. It was quite successful by being very simple and laying keyboard tracks that emphasized the motive for his rhythm and melodies. Along with the vocals of The Flirts (Andrea, Rebecca & Holly) this song moved many of dance floors – returned the period to a higher energy of sleaze with a touch of the nu-wave glam.

I have used some of the erotic and quite controversial moments of the film to create an outline for the play or this track.

REISSUE: “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Carl Douglas released his first LP in 1974 titled “Kung Fu Fighter” produced by Biddu (Biddu Orchestra) – the album marks a piece of funk/disco history with the big hit single, “Kung Fu Fighting” which hit #1 on the soul charts and won the 1974 Grammy Award for best selling single. The song, based on the Kung-Fu movie craze of the time helped to bring disco into a whole new success.

I have taken the 2002 action/comedy film “Kung Pow: Enter The Fist” into this Disco Video Mix and chopped the crazy and hilarious antics of these martial arts masters along with the disco track. The film stars Steve Oedekerk, Fei Lung and Leo Lee.

REISSUE: "San Francisco" by V.I.S.A. - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Another great Celso Valli studio group was V.I.S.A. - featuring the big track, "San Francisco". Very similar to his project Nuggets ("New York") with the same gusto and excitement.

The album was originally released in 1979 (Polydor - Italy) and later in 1980 (Unidisc - Canada) - produced by Angelo Piccarreta and Felix Music Production.

This Disco Video Mix takes V.I.S.A.'s track places it above scenes from the 1936 film, "San Francisco" starring Clark Gable and Jeanette MacDonald - focusing on the Barbary Coast before and after the big quake, which destroyed the city. I have used only the celebratory segments to keep the magic of the disco track on the right track.

REISSUE: “Dancer” by Gino Soccio - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Gino Soccio created the LP “Outline” in 1978 - it’s innovative content moved dance floors and set a new style of disco music in motion. Soccio work with studio bands Kebekelektrik and With Queen helped to solidify a sound that was becoming the cutting edge of disco productions in the late 70’s.

“Dancer” is a mystifying track with a variation of sounds - hardcore disco elements, trance-like aura and a driving electro influence. Many of his projects to follow would inject this formula, yet retain an original presence.

This Disco Video Mix takes this masterpiece and places if below the 1983 music/drama “Flashdance” starring Jennifer Beals and Michael Nouri. The film was the story of a club dancer dreaming of reaching success with her talent. It was a successful film with a memorable theme track, which now is moved with a 70’s classic disco track.

“Baby Face” by Wing and A Prayer Fife and Drum Corps. – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Wing and A Prayer and Drum Corps are a disco project from 1976 which disco-fies big band and swing favorites with the sweeping disco production. Produced by Harold Wheeler and Stephen Y. Scheaffer and features a full orchestra and the funky disco guitars and beat to work these songs on a 70s dance floor.

I have taken the single “Baby Face” from the album and combined it with the 1967 musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie” starring Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore. It is the roaring twenties and plenty of flappers work their feet and arms to this disco extravaganza.

The film was directed by George Roy Hill

REISSUE: "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" by Boys Town Gang - Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Irvin Kershner's suspense film, "Eye's Of Laura Mars" hit theatres in 1978 -- it was a very nice combination of mystery, suspense, drama and some great disco music. The soundtrack featured Michael Zager Band's "Let's All Chant", Odyssey's "Native New Yorker" and KC and The Sunshine Band's "Shake Your Booty."

Visions of the film are expressed in this Video Mix with a completely new edge. Boys Town Gang's disco classic, "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" from 1981project produced by Bill Motley and sung by Jackson Moore. This music was geared to bring back a high-energy disco sound, which was lacking on major labels following the disco fade of the early 80's. This is a simple, yet effective result.

The bizarre theme of "Laura Mars" is put more delicately to Boys Town Gang's dance floor track with a bit more of Faye Dunaway's magic presence. It may seem a bit odd but if you think carefully about the story for those who have seen it and understand the meaning, know that it is along the same parallel.

Dedicated to Cynthia Manley and her wonderful talent, which she continues to share with so many with a great heart and attitude.

Hugh Hefner: Gay rights under ‘assault’

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner criticizes conservatives in an editorial in the September issue, accusing them of continuing “to assault the right of gays.”

“The fight for gay marriage is, in reality, a fight for all of our rights. Without it, we will turn back the sexual revolution and return to an earlier, puritanical time,” he writes. “Today, in every instance of sexual rights falling under attack, you’ll find legislation forced into place by people who practice discrimination disguised as religious freedom. Their goal is to dehumanize everyone’s sexuality and reduce us to using sex for the sole purpose of perpetuating our species. To that end, they will criminalize your entire sex life.”

Conservatives continue “to assault the right of gays, whether by denying them to right to marry or, as in Kansas, by attempting to empower landlords, business owners and employers to discriminate against gays on religious grounds,” Hefner adds.

He identifies several laws that particularly spark his ire.

“In Arizona, under a proposal bill women who hoped to have their health insurer cover birth control would have been forced to provide their employer with proof they were taking the pill for a medical condition — not just for the purpose of avoiding pregnancy. A new Kansas law allows a pharmacist to refuse to sell someone contraception on the grounds that such a sale could violate the pharmacist’s religious beliefs. Similar laws already exist in Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi and South Dakota.”

Hefner concludes: “This is a religious nation, but it is also a secular one. … No one should have to subjugate their religious freedom, and no one should have their personal freedoms infringed. This is America and we must protect the rights of all Americans.”

REISSUE: The Visitors" by ABBA - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

In 1980, ABBA released "Super Trooper" which contained now classic dance tracks, "Lay All Your Love On Me" and "Super Trooper" - it was as if the band was transformed dance floors into an alter to worship another period of grand music.

Without a pause, "The Visitors" was released in 1981 creating more excitement than ever. The title track is a diamond and continues to leave dancers restless and faithful. It relays several stories - one that I placed below the images and scenes from the 1977 film by Steven Spielberg, "Close Encounters of The Third Kind". The film is a look at the strong possibility of "visitors" from another world connecting with earth. Makes better sense to me than most traditional theories.

This Disco Video Mix outlines the films glorious special effects and main characters - for the many years of entertainment and talents he has shared, I dedicate this Mix to Mr. Spielberg and also ABBA - the band with no end.
