BOLLYWOOD AND BOYS!: "Boys Boys Boys" by Sabrina (VIDEO)

Lots of muscle and skin in this version of Sabrina's summer-dream. It is obviously a Bollywood-film intro with the soundtrack of disco fun-maker.

I found this on YouTube and do not know who created it or even what film the clips are from - but it is quite irresistible!!!

Monkees singer Davy Jones dies in Florida at 66

Davy Jones, the mop-topped leader of 1960s pop band The Monkees, died Wednesday of a massive heart attack. Jones was 66.

His publicist, Helen Kensick, said the singer died in Indiantown, Fla., where he lived.

With an infectious smile and easy humor, the diminutive Brit played the Paul McCartney role in the Beatles-inspired quartet, which also included Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith.

Jones sang lead on some of the group's biggest hits, including Daydream Believer, which reached No. 1 on the charts.

Jones, who like his bandmates had continued to perform, had dates scheduled for March.

Formed in 1965 by Hollywood producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider, The Monkees quickly stormed radio and TV airwaves with a string of chart-topping songs that went on to sell an estimated 65 million copies worldwide.

"There were certain indelible images we had of The Monkees, and that was Mike's cap, Micky's goofy looks and Davy's cuteness," says Phil Gallo, senior correspondent at Billboard. "Of all of them, Davy's character was the softest. He was the nice guy, the crowd pleaser."

Gallo recalls being a kid in the 1960s, "collecting Batman cards, then graduating to Monkees cards, way before I got into baseball cards. They were the very first boy band, when you think about it."

Andy Kim, who sang Rock Me Gently and wrote The Archies' Sugar, Sugar, said of Jones: "Everybody loved Davy's smile, the way he came across, his incredible presence. He was a phenomenal ambassador for a band that didn't really start off a band but quickly became a force. … I wrote Oh My My for Davy and Micky's joint album after The Monkees broke up, and it was an honor to know him."

Beatles drummer Ringo Starr said of Jones: "God bless Davy. Peace and love to his family."

Jones was born Dec. 30, 1945, in Manchester, England. His long hair and British accent helped him achieve heartthrob status in the USA.

According to the Monkees website, he left the band in late 1970. Then in the summer of 1971, he recorded a solo hit, Rainy Jane, and made a series of appearances on U.S. variety and television shows, including Love, American Style and The Brady Bunch.

By the mid-1980s, Jones teamed up Tork, Dolenz and promoter David Fishof for a reunion tour. Their popularity prompted MTV to re-air The Monkees series, introducing the group to a new audience.

In 1989, the group received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In the late 1990s, the group filmed a special called Hey, Hey, It's The Monkees.

Jones is survived by his wife, Jessica Pacheco, and four daughters from previous marriages.

REISSUE: "Bring Me Edelweiss" by Edelweiss - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Edelweiss is Walter Werzowa, Martin Gletschermayer and Martin Forster – in 1988 their single “Bring Me Edelweiss” brought to mind another retro period with their cleaver sampling of ABBA’s “S.O.S.”.

The track did pretty good in house segments of club play and then disappeared pretty fast. It was producer and composed by M.M. Gletschermayer and Walter Werzowa with of course, melody samples from ABBA.

My Disco Video Mix was to bring to mind the power of ABBA and also a concept by my partner, Ken.

REISSUE: "(I Lost My Heart to a) Starship Trooper" by Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

This is the BIG one! There is life in another galaxy - in Barbarella's galaxy that is.

One of my favorite movies of all time is brought into the dance arena with Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip's disco classic, "(I Lost My Heart to a) Starship Trooper" - this one has more ammunition than any droid will ever handle!

DISCO RESPONSE: Long before TWITTER or FACEBOOK

When the disco boom began in the mid-70s many major record labels looked to the DJ to fill them in on what was happening with the promo copies they were supplying.

This is a Warner Bros. Records insert that would have been included in each promo disco 12" single from various pools to have an immediate response from the jocks. This was programming was effecting what was the next "disco" move on the labels end.

Eventually and now, most DJs are now producers, therefore the connection to the dance floor are the blink of an eye.

REISSUE: “Eye On You” by Hippies With Haircuts – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Hippies With Haircuts is one of Bobby Orlando’s studio projects from the early 80s – there is no mistaking his synthesizers and hard hitting percussion. “Eye On You” is a strange and somewhat twisted track that is mysterious and alluring – and every bit as cheesy as synth-pop disco can get.

I do not know where this concept came from – in my head – but just popped in and was edited. Taking the 1971 suspense thriller “Play Misty For Me” and placing the obsessed Jessica Walter on disc jockey Clint Eastwood. The ending of course is not a happy one – someone makes a big splash – and it’s not in the music world.

The film was directed by Clint Eastwood – and he did not receive any pay for his work – believe it or not

REISSUE: “Living On Video” by Trans-X - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The 80’s came alive on dance floors with tracks like “Living On Video” by Trans-X (Cerstin “Cessy” Strecker and Pascal Languirand). The 1983 hit brought a new element to electronic music by bridging the new wave edge along with disco electronic synthesizers. It was an exciting time.

I have placed the 1983 David Cronenberg horror-film “Videodrome” starring James Woods and Deborah Harry (Blondie) along with this track - this film was requested to be used by Jussi K. and I had to wait for the right mood and track to accent it with. The film depicts a cable-TV programmer who become involved in ultimate programming fashion that brings video literally into his life.

It is a graphic piece so beware of your eyes! Dedicated to Jussi K.

REISSUE: “Magic Fly” by Kebekelektrik – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Kebekelektrik was originally thought of as “Quebec Electric” – a studio concept from Gino Soccio and Pat Deserio in 1977. The track “Magic Fly” being one of the first releases from the LP – written by Ecama and being one of the innovative instrumentals of the late 70s.

I have taken the track and paired it up with the 1958 science fiction/horror flick, “The Fly” starring David Hedison, Patricia Owens and Vincent Price. It is one of the most terrifying films of the 50s. The “magic” of Kebekelektrik and the film speak for themselves.

REISSUE: “It Should Have Been Me” by Jayne Edwards – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Jayne Edwards is an 80s disco singer best known for a 1985 hit titled “Walk Away Satisfied” produced by Steve Algozino. Her catalogue is also lifted by several tracks produced by disco pioneer, Rick Gianatos in the early and late 80s. One of these singles is a cover of Yvonne Fair’s soul classic “It Should Have Been Me” – Jayne’s vocals takes the disco version to a place where it belongs. A wonderful production.

I have oddly taken the 1967 Mike Nichols film, “The Graduate” starring Anne Bancroft, Dustin Hoffman and Katherine Ross into this Disco Video Mix pairing much of the drama in the disco track along with the film – reshaping and re-mending it into a fitting video mix.

The film was directed by Mike Nichols

REISSUE: “Cha Cha Cha” by Finzy Kontini – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Finzy Kontini are Claudia Columbi, Fabrizio Baldoni and Bruno Rosellini – a disco band from Italy who have recorded their first LP titled “Place To Place” in 1987 – and quickly to follow their follow up single and LP by the same name, “Cha Cha Cha”.

The track became a club favorite thanks to its catchy chorus and cleaver instrumentation. Their music is very uplifting and gives the 80s disco sound a great addition for dance floors.

I have taken the 1998 romance/dance flick “Dance With Me” starring Vanessa Williams and Chayanne and moved the Cuban beats into the “cha cha” arena. The film is the story of a young boy who travels to America to meet his father for the first time and meets an alluring dancer named Ruby, who is played by Vanessa.

The film is directed by Randa Haines

REISSUE: "Moonlight Madness" by Teri DeSario - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Teri DeSario’s “Moonlight Madness” was an underground track produced by H.W. Casey (K.C. and The Sunshine Band). This track became a favorite among disc jockey collectors even though it received only a small amount of club play. It is a simple track with a haunting vocal and percolating synthesizer pumping up the energy.

The 1981 John Landis left-field horror film, “An American Werewolf In London” is the montage for this disco track – stars David Naughton and Jenny Agutter.

REISSUE: "Buenos Aires" by Festival - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The big disco version of the Broadway recording and musical of "Evita" by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice - properly executed in his own Euro-disco style by Boris Midney (USA European Connection, Beautiful Bend, Caress, Masquerade, Companion, Double Discovery).

Midney applied his jazz and classical touch to disco music to many of his projects and also infusing a touch of keyboard and effects technology creating a whole new emphasis on hearing and dancing to disco music.

His studio production of Festival is a new and exciting way of hearing the fantastic soundtrack to "Evita" - a whole new concept with his flair and growth in disco music.

I have taken the 1996 film footage of "Evita" starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas to complete this new form of music and images. It outlines the pieces of film that outline the excitement and drama in the story.

The film was directed by Alan Parker

“Can-Can” by Stainless Steal – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Stainless Steal is a disco project from arranger Geoff Bastow and producer Pete Bellotte – both were in integral part of the Munich disco scene in the late 70s. Bastow arranged many disco projects including Suzie Lane’s “Ooh, La, La”, Joy Fleming’s “The Final Thing” and Elton John’s disco project “Born Bad”.

“Can-Can” is a disco version of the composition from the 1800s – that has since become associated with the French dance by the same name. The disco version inserts a few moments of disco orchestration on some sassy chorus girl riffs.

I have taken the 1982 film “Victor Victoria” – a film by Blake Edwards and stars Julie Andrews, James Garner and Robert Preston. The story set in 1934 revolves around a struggling singer/artist who pairs with Preston to create a fake female impersonation stage show to exhibit her voice.

The comedy moves quite well with the music of the can-can and creates a whole new experience for the film and disco recording.

REISSUE: “J'ai Deux Amours (Two Loves Have I)” by Phylicia Allen – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Phylicia Allen creates a disco-fied tribute to the great, Josephine Baker, an American singer-dancer who is noted for her wonderful contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. Allen works with disco producers Jacques Morali and Henry Belolo (Village People, The Ritchie Family) and gives two medleys outlining the climb and success of Ms. Baker.

Disco music of the late 70s began to work as themes for great films, events and times in history which gives it a lasting luster with its full band and sometimes orchestrated productions. This project is a wonderful example of that genre.

I have taken the 1991 television film “The Josephine Baker Story” and used several of the fabulous sequences starring Lynn Whitfield – who gives a command performance as Josephine Baker.

The film was directed by Brian Gibson

REISSUE: "Bolero" by Kebekelektrik - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Bolero” is a piece composed by Maurice Ravel for ballet in 1928. In 1977 producers Gino Soccio and Pat Deserio included a synth-based disco version on the debut LP for the studio session. The group titled Kebekelektrik is actually a synonym for “Quebec Electric” - since both producers are from Canada.

The disco version is more of a metaphor for the trance-like feel of electronic disco which began to take over with many new variations in the late 70’s. The LP by Kebekelektrik also contained 2 big dance tracks, “Magic Fly” and “Ware Dance” - the project was mixed by the legendary Tom Moulton.

I have taken scenes from Blake Edwards’ 1979 comedy, “10” starring Dudley Moore and Bo Derek - the film outlines a middle aged man searching through is mid-life crisis and his sexual fantasies and reality. This is more of an homage to Bo Derek and the scenes which made her a drop shadow for sexuality in the early 80’s.

“It’s Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me” by Barry White – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Barry White’s 1977 disco gem, “It’s Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me” is one of the most infectious of his dance tracks. The bass and strings bring the complete feeling that disco music would relay throughout the mid-to-late 70s.

I have taken the film “The Ladies Man” from 2000 starring SNL’s Tim Meadows, Karyn Parsons, Will Farrell and Billy Dee Williams. The comedy about a suave bachelor who gives advice on romance and lovemaking tips seems appropriate.

The film was directed by Reginald Hudlin

REISSUE: "Just Another Broken Heart" by Dorothy Moore - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

"Just Another Broken Heart" is a 1982 dance classic by Dorothy Moore ("Misty Blue") - the track was produced by Bob Montgomery (Johnny Rivers, Jim Hurt). It is a well known underground track among disc jockeys and hard core audiophiles. It not only is a successfully dramatic performance by Ms. Moore, but it also has one of the most incredible arrangements.

"The Bodyguard" is a 1992 thriller starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner - a film passed with past possible stars such as Diana Ross, Ryan O'Neil and even Madonna as the lead. Luckily, we have Whitney taking the stage and leaving behind a trail of tears which I take advantage of in this Disco Video Mix.

REISSUE: "Catch Me (I'm Falling In Love)" by Marsha Raven - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

High energy classic "Catch Me (I'm Falling In Love)" is given the Disco Video Mix treatment along with one of my all-time favorite films, Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo".

Marsha Raven had a hit in 1982 with "I Like Plastic" - a bit of novelty track but maintained a wonderful feel with a production by Pierre Tubbs. In 1983, Marsha worked with Ian Anthony Stephens on Passion Records in the UK and began a series of great disco/high energy tracks.

The song is known by its dramatic drum rolls and high-end chorus - it works perfected with the drama and theme of the 1958 psychological thriller starring James Stewart and Kim Novak.

This idea came to me easily, as I am a big cinema fan and Hitchcock being a big influence on my film making interest as a child.
