REISSUE: “Magnifique” by Magnifique – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Magnifique is a single from a studio concept band originally titles Charisma – produced by disco producer Anthony Monn (Judy Cheeks, ORS). The track is one of the hardcore club records of the late 70s and onto the early 80s. The feel of the song is a bit erotic along with climatic synthesizers swirling into crescendos.

I have taken the mystique of the song and placed it along with the British science fiction/black comedy from 1985 “Brazil” starring Jonathan Price, Robert De Niro and Katherine Helmond. The dreamlike fantasy has a bit of the claustrophobia elements of the disco track which blend very well.

The film was directed by Terry Gilliam

REISSUE: “Trippin’ On The Moon” by Cerrone – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Cerrone’s transition from 70s disco to 80s high energy was flawless. The movement into electronic music which became the dance floor medium for the time was displayed in Cerrone’s style and flavor.

From his 1982 LP “Back Track 8”, the single “Trippin’ On The Moon” became one of the icon disco tracks of the 80s. It featured the vocals of Kay Garner – who also recorded vocals with Love and Kisses and the group The Ladybirds.

I have taken the sci-fi film from 1953 “Cat Women of The Moon” starring Sonny Tufts, Victor Jory and Marie Windsor and placed scenes along with Cerrone’s classic to create a cheesy adventure into the world of human-like felines on the moon. It is quite a campy chapter in 50s adventure flicks.

REISSUE: "Party Girl" by Pattie Brooks - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Pattie Brooks (Our Miss Brooks) became the #1entry on the disco charts in 1978 with he big one, "After Dark". This gave Ms. Brooks many opportunities to bring us her talents to the dance floor - including her 1979 LP "Party Girl" produced by Bunny Sigler.

I have placed the track above scenes from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard - based on a novella by Truman Capote.

REISSUE: “It Should Have Been Me” by Jayne Edwards – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Jayne Edwards is an 80s disco singer best known for a 1985 hit titled “Walk Away Satisfied” produced by Steve Algozino. Her catalogue is also lifted by several tracks produced by disco pioneer, Rick Gianatos in the early and late 80s. One of these singles is a cover of Yvonne Fair’s soul classic “It Should Have Been Me” – Jayne’s vocals takes the disco version to a place where it belongs. A wonderful production.

I have oddly taken the 1967 Mike Nichols film, “The Graduate” starring Anne Bancroft, Dustin Hoffman and Katherine Ross into this Disco Video Mix pairing much of the drama in the disco track along with the film – reshaping and re-mending it into a fitting video mix.

The film was directed by Mike Nichols

“Theme from “E.T. (The Extra Terrestrial)” by Denny Randell And Rockophonic Orchestra – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Denny Randell is a producer and arranger known for his work with artists Terri De Sario, Charlie Calello Orchestra, Odyssey and The Regal Dewy. He brings to life in this 12” single from 1982 John Williams’ magical theme from “E.T. (The Extra Terrestrial)” and adds his own disco touch.

I have taken the 12” version of Randell’s disco version and paired it with scenes from the film. “E.T. (The Extra Terrestrial)” and attempted to bring the single and film together for a glimpse back on the wonderful emotions and feeling they create.

The film was directed by Steven Spielberg

REISSUE: "I Took His Money" by Hott City! - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Hott City was as disco project produced by Jeffrey Parsons and Jeffrey Steinberg. The LP contained various sessions with lead vocals performed by several performers. "It Took His Money" featured the vocals of Mildred Vaney and Ortheia Barnes who also recorded under the title Cut Glass ("Without Your Love") with both Parsons and Steinberg.

I have take scenes from the 1990 film "Pretty Woman" starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts and placed the fairy tale premise along with "I Took His Money". I believe they work close enough together.

“Just Can’t Help Believing” by Boys Town Gang – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Boys Town Gang is a San Francisco based disco group founded and produced by the late Bill Motley. The first album release featured the fabulous Cynthia Manley creating her rendition of Diana Ross classics “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Remember Me” as a medley which brought the dance community alive again for more years of dancing and hunger for disco music.

“Just Can’t Help Believing” is a cover of the 1970 B.J. Thomas classic ballad –done in the sweet high energy style that Motley was so wonderful to build. The album featured vocals by Jackson Moore and once again answered to the disco connoisseurs dream.

I have taken the song along with the 1977 Neil Simon comedy/romance film, “The Goodbye Girl” starring Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason – a story that focuses on the romance between a struggling actor and a heartbroken dancer who can only look forward to “goodbyes” in relationships thanks to her past. It works well with the heart strings and romance and gives the disco track a new identity.

“In A Gadda Da Vida / Garden Of Eden” by Disco Circus – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Disco Circus is a disco concept group formed by producer Jürgen S. Korduletsch (Claudja Barry’s husband and producer) – one of the heading disco groups to take dance floors into an electronic sound complete with brass, drums and guitars.

The band released their first self-titled LP which was produced and recorded at Music Land Studios in Munich Germany. Many musicians in the session included many of disco’s players who helped to create a progression in the 70s disco scene.

I have taken the first second single track and cover of Iron Butterfly’s “In A Gadda Da Vida” and a second part added piece “Garden Of Eden” into this Disco Video Mix – along with scenes from the 2007 film, “Across The Universe” – starring Evan Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess. The film features a look back at the Vietnam War and many of the causes for change in a society where many political and social events were protested. With the feel of the 1968 “In A Gadda Da Vida” – it paints a simple picture of youth and their eyes seeing the world with less conviction to what they have been told.

REISSUE: "Upside Down" by Vanessa - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Vanessa's 1981 club hit, "Upside Down" is recreated with scenes from the 1972 disaster epic, "The Poseidon Adventure" -- it was not quite the "Hell" that it was the first time!

The disco track gives opportunity for more celebration and a lighter side of the upturned ocean liner.

Being a child of the 70's disaster films were quite the fascination -- this was my chance to take the film into a whole new feel. The disco track "Upside Down" by Vanessa was produced by Martin Duiser and was one of the rare high-energy disco tracks of 1981 -- so it is highly one of the most enduring for myself.

I hope you can appreciate the light hearted comedy and yet the drama that is displayed here -- all for fun and dancing of course.

REISSUE: "One Night Only" by Scherrie Payne - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

"Dreamgirls" was an explosive Broadway musical with lasting effect in many arenas of music history. One of the most incredible segments of this Michael Bennett masterpiece was the song, "One Night Only". This track has since been adapted to many stages to give the drama of success and how quickly it may come and go.

In 1984, Scherrie Payne (sister of singer Freda Payne) released a disco cover of the song on Megatone Records - produced by the legendary, Rick Gianatos. Scherrie was one of the ladies to grace The Supremes from 1973 - 1977. The single included backing vocals by Cindy Birdsong, Edna Wright and Pat Hodges.

I have taken this piece and paired it with the 1976 film, "Sparkle" starring Irene Cara, Philip Michael Thomas and Lonette McKee - the story outlines a group of youngsters from Harlem whose dreams take them into fame and also a life's drama. I believe this was the original "Dreamgirls" theme roughly done for the time.

The film was directed by Sam O'Steen

“The Heart To Break The Heart” by France Joli – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

France Joli burst upon the disco scene in 1979 with her first hit “Come To Me” – with this classic a destined disco chanteuse with a wonderful stature gave dance floors emotion and disco-grooves. Her second LP titled “Tonight” released in 1980 contained another powerhouse dance hall track titled “The Heart To Break The Heart” – a formula similar to her prior bit hit, yet a story all its own.

I have taken “The Heart To Break The Heart” and the 1949 film “The Heiress” starring Olivia de Havilland and Montgomery Clift – the story of a naïve woman who falls for a handsome young man who is a fortune hunter. The story follows an intricate and satisfying end for our heroine and also supplies the heartache and resolution of our disco story.

REISSUE: "Touch Me In The Morning" by Marlena Shaw - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Marlena Shaw placed a mark with Diana Ross’ classic 1977 ballad “Touch Me In The Morning” – along with producer Meco Monardo the song was disco-fied in 1979.

Taking a song with such emotional content and delivery and creating an extension of its beauty is justice for Shaw – she recreates a scenario that not only takes the song further but also adds to it.

With a remix by John Luongo this song is now a classic piece of disco music.

I have taken Diana Ross’ fabulous “Mahogany” and placed this disco gem below the fashion and drama. It is not the Theme from Mahogany (“Do You Know Where Your Going To”) but it lends its tenderness to the Disco Video Mix.

REISSUE: "Adventure" by Eleanor - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Eleanor Academia is a talented Filipino artist who's 1987 LP "Jungle Wave" was quite the offering for both jazz and electronic dance crossover track, "Adventure". The disco single release of "Adventure" was remixed by Shep Pettibone and done so in a favorable manner. Much like a Tantra ("Hills Of Kat Mandu") journey with a trace of New York funk injected.

This is one my favorite 80's fusion dance numbers.

Eleanor also offered on this LP project a few great jazz ballads and tracks that transcends beyond the dance genre - although "Adventure" is done very well.

I have taken the 1986 film, "Clan Of The Cave Bear" starring Darryl Hannah and blended the two to create simply, an adventure.

The film was directed by Michael Chapman

kREISSUE: "Knockout" by Margie Joseph - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Margie Joseph has been recording since 1969 - her first single "One More Chance". She made her way to the 80's with a solo LP titled "Knockout" - a big funk/dance hit in clubs the song is still alive in the minds and feet of many dance music connoisseurs.

I have take her 1982 dance track and paired it up with Barbra Streisand and Ryan O' Neil (together again - since "What's Up Doc") in "The Main Event" - the story of a perfume magnate who loses her company and success finding all that is let is a contract for a boxer - which she purchased as a tax write off. Thus, Ryan O' Neil enters.

The film had it's own disco soundtrack - but I have added a twist with Margie Joseph's dance number - a few "punches" and connections.

REISSUE: "I (Who Have Nothing)" by Sylvester - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Sylvester has worked the standard "I (Who Have Nothing)" (originally released by Ben E. King in 1963) into a dance classic that emphasizes the pain and distance of a relationship gone astray.

The single was the first from his LP "Stars" from 1979 - it was an instant smash hit on the dance floor and dance critics praised it as one of the most emotional performances in disco music - I agree. The song was produced by Harvey Fuqua and Sylvester.

I have taken the film "Indecent Proposal" starring Robert Redford, Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson and paired up the drama with Sylvester's track. It outlines the $1,000,000 proposal, which brings a relationship into a whole new light and brings tears and heartache into 3 lives.

This is another concept brought to me by my partner; Ken and I could completely understand his idea - which has created this Disco Video Mix.

REISSUE: “What Have I Got To Lose” by Astaire – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Astaire is a high energy studio band from the UK featuring the beautiful vocals of Miss Tracy Ackerman – the 1986 single “What Have I Got To Lose” is anthem of love and strength and has always been one of the pieces of a set during the time. It was produced by Nigel Stock for Passion Records.

I have taken the single and blended it with the 1974 film, “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” starring Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson and good old Mel’s Diner (continued in the television spin-off “Alice”). The film is the story of a widowed woman determined to make it in a discouraging world. Somehow the two crossed paths in my mind and they became this Disco Video Mix.

WAR is a funk group from Southern California discovered by Jerry Goldstein – their hits have included “Low Rider” and “Why Can’t We Be Friends”. Their 1977 album “Galaxy” featured the titled track which quickly became a dance floor favorite – the 12” single was remixed by Manny Slali – a big disco DJ from Studio One in Los Angeles.

I have taken the 12” version of “Galaxy” and created a Disco Video Mix using the 1999 film “Galaxy Quest” as the visual – a film starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman. It is one of my favorite comedies of an alumni cult space TV show cast brought into space to assist their alien race against an evil warlord.

“Havah Nagilah” by Azoto – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Azoto released their first disco LP in 1979 titled “Music Makers Ltd” – this was the brainchild of Italian disco producer and arranger, Celso Valli (Tantra, Passengers and Nuggets). Many of the tracks have the essence of Valli’s genius of weaving sequencers, keyboards along with strings and disco bass and beats – it was one of the forerunners in Italo-disco in its early stages.

“Havah Nagilah” is an electronic disco version from the project which is haunting and mysterious with this dance arrangement – it is a Hebrew folk song and means “Let Us Rejoice”. The disco-fication of the song is a nice touch from Valli and proves his ability to create dreamy and strong bass-tracks for the dance floor.

I have taken the 1971 film “Fiddler On The Roof” and blended dance sequences and some of the drama from the story of a Jewish family living in the town of Anatevka in Tsarist Russia in 1905.

The film "Sweet Charity" was my favorite film at the age of 13. So don't be surprised that when The Ritchie Family released "American Generation" in 1978 featuring a disco version of "Big Spender" I was ecstatic!

It crossed my mind to use snippets of the film with Shirley McClaine, Chita Rivera and Paula Kelly and sync their fabulous dance numbers (choreographed by Bob Fosse. Well here it is! No sweat. Just lots of excitement.
