REISSUE: "Love Fever" by Munich Machine - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Combining 1967 action-camp film, "Hot Rods To Hell" and Giorgio Moroder's Munich Machine's "Love Fever" from 1978 create an explosion of hot rods and hot chicks. Vocals are sung by Chris Bennett.

The pulsating disco rhythm of "Love Fever" well describes what a teenager must go through when desire calls. This is a fun track and some great footage to match staring Dana Andrews, Jean Crain, Mimsy Farmer and Paul Bertoya.

If you haven't revved up your motor yet, you will!

REISSUE: “Behind The Groove” by Teena Marie – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Teena Marie (Mary Christine Brockert) is better known as Lady T – a R&B artists who brought a new style and edge to soul and disco music in the late 70s. Her music was poetic and a very powerful inspiration to the soul. Her second album in 1980 titled “Lady T” contained the dance single “Behind The Groove” which I have taken into the Disco Video Mix arena thanks to an ideal from Ken Emmons.

The 1980 musical “Xanadu” starring Olivia Newton John, Gene Kelly and Michael Beck is the visual in this project – the big dance segments lend some energy and mystique to the mythical land of Xanadu. The film is a campy piece of 80s dance that always makes the magic of disco and the era come alive again.

The film was directed by Robert Greenwald

REISSUE: "Cutie Pie" by Lime - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Lime released "Take The Love" in 1986 - it is the sixth LP for Lime from a 1981 through 1986. Denis and Denyse LaPage set a standard in 80's high energy and disco scene. Their simplified, yet effective keyboard arrangements created many nights of non-stop dancing.

"Cutie Pie" is a single from the LP which was a flip side to the 12" single "Did You See That Girl?" - it was a big hit in my club and has a very catchy vocal riff.]

I have taken the 1956 now-cult classic film, "The Bad Seed" with Nancy Kelly and Patty McCormick as used the sweet on the surface child as the realm for "Cutie Pie". It is a bit demented in it's turnover message - but I feel hilarious and strange.

The film was directed by Mervyn LeRoy

REISSUE: “(Carmen) Danger In Her Eyes” by Deborah Sasson & MCL – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Deborah Sasson along with MCL (Micro Chip League) producers Alexander Henninger and Ken Taylor recreate the tragedy of the 1845 novella Carmen and then 1875 opera. The 1989 techno track has the emphasis of a sledgehammer pounding out the drama until the last breath of our heroine’s saga.

I have taken the 1954 musical adaption by Otto Preminger, “Carmen Jones” which translates the film set during World War II and gives the vixen played by Dorothy Dandridge a take on the opera. The film also stars Harry Belafonte and Pearl Bailey.

Griffin’s ‘The Disco Exorcist’ (2011) Hits All The Right Notes on The Devil’s Dancefloor

Griffin’s ‘The Disco Exorcist’ (2011) Hits All The Right Notes on The Devil’s Dancefloor

Rex Romanski is the grooviest cat in the club and even groovier in the bedroom with the kittens; he’s a coke-snortin’, woman-pleasin’ disc deity in po
lyester. The fun never stops for Rex and when he meets a classy gal named Rita Marie, he does his thing, and does it well, stealing her heart in the process. The romance is short-lived when Rex meets porn actress Amoreena Jones, leaving Rita Marie disgraced and alone on the dance floor.

Rita’s no ordinary woman and doesn’t take kindly to rejection, she’s a powerful witch with voodoo and demons at her disposal. The terror has just begun as Amoreena becomes the target of a deadly demon looking to possess her body, kill Rex and kill everybody in the disco! That…is not…groovy. Can Rex, disco deejay Manuel and the disco’s janitor help free Amoreena of the demon possessing her and break the curse cast by Rita or will a spinning disco ball of death be the last thing they all see?

The Disco Exorcist is a sexy, campy throwback to 70′s supernatural horror cinema with a style absolutely unique to Richard Griffin. If you’re familiar with Griffin’s films, I own about seven of them, you know he has the uncanny ability to capture actual comedy, something lacking in low budget cinema, and honest-to-goodness horror together onscreen. While some directors lack an understanding of the importance of comedic timing, Griffin seems to have a grasp on it and knows when to use comedy and when to pull back for a little serious, hands-on horror. Not shy about combining nudity, simulated sex, wry comedy and practical FX, The Disco Exorcist doesn’t just look like something filmed on the cheap in the 70s but it feels like it.

The production design (read: ghastly colors and patterns) combined with colorful lightning, a funky disco-esque score and the hideously accurate wardrobe made The Disco Exorcist a treat to watch; successfully immersing me in the film, never losing continuity and taking me out of the experience as some films that emulate 60s & 70s exploitation cinema often do. Naturally throwing in some fantastic nudity and surprisingly effective “softcore” sex really kicked things up a notch but, in my opinion, none of it would have worked without the charismatic charm and million dollar smile of Michael Reed as Rex Romanski. He had the perfect physique for the clothing, righteous moves on the dancefloor and a nice handle on the comedic elements.

Now, I did feel that the first quarter of The Disco Exorcist seemed t0 drag but that really may have been my lack of enthusiasm with, yet another, “grindhouse” production. Thankfully it was both lighthearted and respectful of the exploitation cinema it so closely resembled. Richard Griffin has, yet again, made an entertaining film that will truly appeal to horror and exploitation fans tired of the same old, same old. I would definitely recommend checking out this Wild Eye Releasing release as a double feature with Simon, King of the Witches starring Andrew Prine.

REISSUE: "Whole Lotta Love" by The Wonder Band - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The disco concept LP reaches for the classic rock genre with the LP "Stairway To Heaven" by The Wonder Band - the project from 1979 features two Led Zeppelin songs beautifully transformed into disco orchestrations complete with strings and brass.

The LP was produced by Silvio Tancredi, Israel Sanchez and Armando Noreiga (Simbora Orchestra "Brazuca" and appears on Easy Going's "Fear").

"Whole Lotta Love" is a wall of disco sound that uses every piece of disco satisfaction to build a fantastic piece of dance fantasy.

I have taken scenes from the 1997 film "Boogie Nights" starring Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds and Julianne Moore - a story of the 70's porn scene and the uprising star whose life becomes a roller coaster ride on it's tracks. The association is a bit odd, but work well with the 70's feel and energy.

The film was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson

REISSUE: "One Night Only" by Scherrie Payne - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

"Dreamgirls" was an explosive Broadway musical with lasting effect in many arenas of music history. One of the most incredible segments of this Michael Bennett masterpiece was the song, "One Night Only". This track has since been adapted to many stages to give the drama of success and how quickly it may come and go.

In 1984, Scherrie Payne (sister of singer Freda Payne) released a disco cover of the song on Megatone Records - produced by the legendary, Rick Gianatos. Scherrie was one of the ladies to grace The Supremes from 1973 - 1977. The single included backing vocals by Cindy Birdsong, Edna Wright and Pat Hodges.

I have taken this piece and paired it with the 1976 film, "Sparkle" starring Irene Cara, Philip Michael Thomas and Lonette McKee - the story outlines a group of youngsters from Harlem whose dreams take them into fame and also a life's drama. I believe this was the original "Dreamgirls" theme roughly done for the time.

Tribute to Mr. Boogar! :)

Our pets are such gifts.

Mr. Boogar was one of our previous English Bulldogs – he was Ken’s male pup when we began dating in 1999 – and he passed in 2003. Today is his birthday and I want to post a salute to Mr. Boogars.

He was a funny dog and of course always subjected to my camera antics. He was a good sport!

Thank you, Boogar for being such a great friend!

“The Way We Were” by The New York Disco Orchestra – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The New York Disco Orchestra is a band produced by Clem Vicari in 1976 – the single “The Way We Were” is a disco-fied cover of the 1973 Barbra Streisand hit ballad from the film of the same title. The track feels as the disco-symphonic sound of a Barry White and his Love Unlimited Orchestra production.

I have taken the 1980 film “Fame” and blended s an audition sequence to blend in the Disco Video Mix title – and took off with a few of the energetic ballad and street dance scenes.

“Dancing With Strangers” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

D.C. LaRue is one of disco music’s original artists who created a sound which became the outline of disco music and its soul. The lyrical melodies and diverse themes create the Broadway show feel which disco music is so dramatically able to relay. With producer Bob Esty on the 1978 album, “Cathedrals” a non-stop play of songs are displayed and written by D.C. himself.

“Dancing With Stanger’s” is the beautiful dance track which brings to mind the lovely atmosphere disco music is meant to create – and these two geniuses make it work over-and-over.

I have taken the 1953 musical comedy, “The Band Wagon” starring Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse – the fabulous dance sequences bring the disco number back to life and create a nice aura of disco magic all over again.

REISSUE: “Extraterrestrial Lover” by Sylvia Love - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Sylvia Love (Chantal Pierre) has 2 places in disco history – “Instant Love” and “Extraterrestrial Lover”. Produced by Trevor Vallis in 1979, these tracks exude the energy that disco music is all about. Flowing and lovely, both tracks have a sensual feel with both Sylvia’s vocals and Trevor’s keyboards and arrangements that are surely tailored as for a dance floor at 5 AM.

This style of disco music has always held a special place in my world and dance floor – weaving an imaginary place and theme with pulsating energy lightly accenting a make-believe journey.

Using the 1984 John Carpenter film, “Starman” as the eye candy here is a perfect match for “Extraterrestrial Lover”. The story outlines a starship from outer space, which crash lands to avoid an attack from a military aircraft, and a visitor is introduced to a young woman. After taking on the characteristics of her deceased husband through DNA from a locket of hair she becomes fearful at first, but then realizes the special event will bring her heart closer again to the memory of her loved one.

Note: I can remember a visitor to my booth back in 1984 while playing this Sylvia’s track and saying that the song was a take off of “E.T.” – when actually this song was released in 1979. Long before our little extraterrestrial friend found Reese's Pieces.

Epiphyllum - Before the bloom 9-16-12 (15 photos)

One of the most incredible plants and flowers I have ever seen. Epiphyllums that we have planted to grow on our huge rubber tree (Ficus elastica) grows up and around the branches. It has presented 2 blooms this year - which is unusual - nor
mally there is only one. It is the most beautiful time when the flowers blossom - they only bloom late at night - are very fragrant and are so transparent they look like space flowers. It is a gift from nature I appreciate and love so much.

I have taken the number and extended it for a mild ReStructure and for eye candy edited scenes from 1966 action film, "The Silencers" with Dean Martin.

REISSUE: "Bahia" by El Coco - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

El Coco was W. Michael Lewis and Laurin Rinder who made a big impact on disco music and dance floors with their talent and creative minds.

Their first LP under the title El Coco was “Brazil” – the LP featured many flavors of dance rhythms and their early influence on disco music. Their studio concept groups included Discognosis, In Search Of Orchestra, Le Pamplemousse, Rinder & Lewis, Saint Tropez, and Tuxedo Junction, as well as artists like Eloise Whitaker. Their non-ending fusion of sounds and arrangements left no room for he imagination to go without.

I have take “Bahia” and blended it with the 1942 film with Tyrone Power and Gene Tierney to create a romantic interlude following his abandoning ship in the South Seas with a lovely island girl. Our music interlude ends in sadness as his rescue nears and a goodbye nears.

John Cromwell directed the film.

“Love Rush” by Ann Margret – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Ann Margret hit the disco scene in 1980 with her disco project produced by the gifted producer and musician, Paul Sabu. This was a moment in disco history which was the biggest gift under the tree. Following Sabu’s productions with Debbie Jacobs (“Don’ You Want My Love”, “High On Your Love”), Sister Power, his solo effort, “We’re Gonna Rock” – his style of dance music had already become contagious.

“Love Rush” is the big single and is a stage for Margret to give the disco performance of her lifetime – complete with the sexy-kitten edge a la-disco. It is one of my favorite camp treats and a big club hit on the dance floor for me.

I have taken Ann Margret’s 1963 musical comedy “Bye Bye Birdie” and created a Disco Video Mix utilizing the dance sequences and Ann’s on screen sex appeal. The film is based on the phenomenon of singer, Elvis Presley in the 50s and his being drafted in the United States Army in 1957.

REISSUE: “Make That Feeling Come Again” by Beautiful Bend - Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Blending the beauty of Brian De Palma’s 1975 mystery, “Obsession” and Boris Midney’s production of Beautiful Bend’s “Make That Feeling Come Again” was an attempt to bring a flowing canvas of orchestral disco and cinematic visions.

Both pieces are the most incredible in artistry. I have placed the classic 1978 disco piece “Make That Feeling Come Again” with “Obsession” to coincide with Cliff Robertson’s obsession with his wife’s death and the need to bring her image and her feeling back to life. Geneviève Bujold is placed in this masterpiece of images and a style of disco music that created by Boris Midney by using technical wizardry along with classical string sections and wonderful melodies that are interrupted by percussion breaks and haunting effects. Very similar along the outline of what the film “Obsession” is about.

Taking the finale of the film and the last chorus of Midney’s wonderful piece I feel are the perfect closing for sound and pictures.

“The Love Stealers” by Saint Tropez – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Saint Tropez are one of the big disco femme-ensembles from the late 70s and also a creation of Laurin Rinder and W. Michael Lewis who also brought us El Coco, In Search of Orchestra, Tuxedo Junction, Eloise Whitaker, and Sweet Potato Pie. The group’s third album from 1982 is titled “Femmes Fatales” and marked another transition of disco group to dance band during the early 80s.

“The Love Stealers” is the big single from the project and brought joy to many die-hard disco fans in the early 80s – as a return to the female disco ensemble in full-force.

I have taken the album version of the song and blended it with the 1984 film, “Thief Of Hearts” starring Barbara Williams and Steven Bauer – a mystery-romance of a woman in a troubled marriage whose home is burglarized and diaries stolen only to find the hunter being captured by the game.
