REISSUE: “Let The Good Times Roll” by Fern Kinney - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Fern Kinney made a bit break in discotheques with her 1979 hit, “Groove Me” - an electronic cover of King Floyd’s classic track. In 1981 Fern released her second album titled “Fern” - a track that was a b-side to her single “Love Me Tonight” was another cover - this time Shirley and Lee’s rock ‘n’ roll hit “Let The Good Times Roll” - the arrangement was a bouncy spaced-out feel complete with lunar lading effects.

I have taken the 1973 film by George Lucas “American Graffiti starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul LeMat, Cindy Williams and Harrison Ford and matched the nostalgia to a different beat. The film is a classic among rock ‘n’ roll fans and now a new outline gives it a new life.

REISSUE: "San Francisco" by V.I.S.A. - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Another great Celso Valli studio group was V.I.S.A. - featuring the big track, "San Francisco". Very similar to his project Nuggets ("New York") with the same gusto and excitement.

The album was originally released in 1979 (Polydor - Italy) and later in 1980 (Unidisc - Canada) - produced by Angelo Piccarreta and Felix Music Production.

This Disco Video Mix takes V.I.S.A.'s track places it above scenes from the 1936 film, "San Francisco" starring Clark Gable and Jeanette MacDonald - focusing on the Barbary Coast before and after the big quake, which destroyed the city. I have used only the celebratory segments to keep the magic of the disco track on the right track.

REISSUE: "The Fight (For The Single Family)” by Norma Lewis – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Norma Lewis played a major part in bringing disco torch songs back onto dance floors in the early 80’s. She was actually Marsha Raven (“Catch Me”, “I Like Plastic”, etc.) and Charade (“Got To Get To You”winking before she began recording under Norma Lewis.

And under Norma Lewis she was a phenomenal asset to dance music – with cuts such as “Break Me”, “Maybe This Time”, “Life Is The Reason”, “For All We Know”, “Tonight (Dancing With The Desperate)”, and “Surprise Me Tonight” as well as a current recording of a cover version of “Someone That I Used To Love”. This line up is a hard one to forget when you adore beautiful dance music.

“The Fight (For The Single Family)” was another tribute to the workingwoman – very similar to Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard For The Money”. It was released in 1982 and produced by Phil Harding.

I have taken one of my favorite comedies of all-time, “Private Benjamin” and literally placed “The Fight” over a “private in the war” – well her own war. This was a great time for me to use some wonderful footage of Goldie Hawn being the adorable and lovable character that we all loved in 1980 – the film was directed by Howard Zieff.

“Connecting Flight” by Romanelli – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Roland Romanelli is has arranged and performed on projects by French group Space – their hits “Carry On, Turn Me On”, “Magic Fly”, “Just Blue” and “My Love Is Music” are the echoes of experimental and underground electronic/symphony music.

Romanelli also produced a disco concept group in the same genre titled McLane Explosion

“Connecting Flight” is a solo project from Romanelli from 1982 which defines the formula in its graceful melodies and powerful disco foundation. The track always brought to mind a visual outline – I have chosen the 1982 film “Koyaanisqatsi” – which is a fine visual concept of images of nature and man.

The film originally featured music by Phillip Glass – the track from Romanelli gives another pallet of thoughts and ideas.

The film was directed by Godfrey Reggio

REISSUE: “Double Trouble” by Diva - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Joe La Greca along with Denis LaPage created Diva’s “Double Trouble” – a big hit for the Canadian disco movement in the early 80’s. Studio bands like Lime helped to bridge the sound of disco music in transition from Euro-disco to an electronic fusion.

“Double Trouble” is complete assembling of the La Greca and Le Page disco sound, which dominated dance floors throughout the 80’s.

I have taken Alfred Hitchcock’s “Strangers On A Train” from 1951 starring Farley Granger and Robert Walker to complete the statement from the disco track. Walker takes control of Farley’s life by murdering a nuisance wife who begins a tale of suspense and action. Anyone who has seen the film will understand what is intended here.

Myself being an extreme Hitchcock fan could not wait to use this masterpiece in a Video Mix.

REISSUE: "Think It Over" by Cissy Houston - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Cissy Houston (Whitney's mother) was a commodity in disco music during 1978 – her dance floor hit, “Think It Over” is a track that will be long remembered as one of the most powerful female defiance songs of the disco era. The best part is that is so hardcore and underground that most will never hear it, unless they have by some luck found it. In 2000 this track was covered by Jennifer Holiday, but the original with the Michael Zager production remains the best.

More of Michael Zager’s production magic of the disco era is displayed in both the orchestral arrangement and the dance mix.

I have taken a close call here by combining Adrian Lyne film “Fatal Attraction” from 1987 with Houston’s track. It is a bit heavy and to the point – but that’s what Cissy brings out in her wonderful vocal. I have attempted to keep away from the blood and gore of some scenes. Just a touch of the outline should keep any man monogamous. The film stars Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer.

A special thanks to all of you who make these videos work with your imagination and love for disco music. Keeping it alive is where it is.

“Woman Ad-Lib” by L.A.X. – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

L.A.X. is a disco band produced by Jean Kluger and Ralph Benatar – the LP “Under Cover Lover” featured a track titled “Woman Ad-Lib” (which was released in France as “A Woman That’s Hot”. The song is a sexy tribute the the shapely beauty of femme and the rolling bass of disco in the late 70s.

I have taken the track and paired it with the1956 film “The Girl Can’t Help It” starring Jayne Mansfield and Tom Ewll – using a few scenes of the dynamite and sexy lead star I am created an outline for the disco track. Quite a figure and outline – for any mix!

The film was directed by Frank Tashlin

REISSUE: “Reincarnation (Coming Back For Love)” by People Like Us - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

People Like Us is a group produced by Paul Crossley and Terry Owen – a large part of the Passion Records dance movement of the mid-80’s. The sound of rolling drums and orchestral keyboards.

“Reincarnation (Coming Back For Love)” was their second single release, which began a fan base for many hardcore dancers and DJs awaiting the next release. The track is simple and moving – a love shared so deep that returning to this existence is well worth it.

I have taken the 1977 horror film, “Audrey Rose” which deals directly with a spiritual reconnection with our world after tragic death. A bit dramatic – yet it fits into my left-field Disco Video Mixes.

The film stars Marsha Mason, John Beck and Anthony Hopkins and was directed by Robert Wise. It has some haunting moments and is probably better read than seen, since the subject and believe is deeper than visuals.

REISSUE: "It's A War" by Kano - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The 1980 dance floor hit, "It's A War" by Kano was a powerhouse track that featured some incredible outlines for a classic dance track. Produced by Italian producers L. Ninzatti, M. Bosanto and S. Pulga.

I have taken the 1970 adventure film, "Voyage Into Space" from Japan - featuring "Giant Robot" and young spy, Johnny Sakko -- the film is a fantasy epic where a young boy becomes a spy to fight against the evil forces that threaten the planet earth. A few monsters are conjured up to add to the excitement.

With a bit of editing and reworking the footage I have made "It's A War" one for the big guys!

REISSUE: "Catch Me (I'm Falling In Love)" by Marsha Raven - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

High energy classic "Catch Me (I'm Falling In Love)" is given the Disco Video Mix treatment along with one of my all-time favorite films, Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo".

Marsha Raven had a hit in 1982 with "I Like Plastic" - a bit of novelty track but maintained a wonderful feel with a production by Pierre Tubbs. In 1983, Marsha worked with Ian Anthony Stephens on Passion Records in the UK and began a series of great disco/high energy tracks.

The song is known by its dramatic drum rolls and high-end chorus - it works perfected with the drama and theme of the 1958 psychological thriller starring James Stewart and Kim Novak.

This idea came to me easily, as I am a big cinema fan and Hitchcock being a big influence on my film making interest as a child.
