POP UP VIRUSES!!!

Just wanted to let you guys know - since we all surf the net and use our computers allot:

I am pretty savvy when it comes to PCs - I have my A+ certification and work work all of Microsoft's OS systems - I am the guy everyone calls when something is not working or goes wrong - usually I can decipher the problem and fix it.

I post my mixes, videos and music on many blogs and my own sites. Recently, during a post a blog I noticed that many of the pop up ads were constantly jumping up - and had been for about a week. Some were bringing up windows that have an small window interface that looks as if you were installing an add-in to a Microsoft Office Suite. I kept selecting "cancel" and it took several times to go away.

When it finally did, I went ahead with my upload. When I toggled between the sites upload windows more pop-up ads came at me. I kept closing them. I did leave the main window open for a couple of hours while doing something else. When I returned to that computer it was going crazy with pop-ups and closing programs and windows.

I did look deeper into the infected PC and found a trojan virus that uses .tmp files to infect - it directs your PC internet connection to download the virus constantly and to the point where it is opening and closing the virus within seconds so your PC is worthless.

I scan regularly for viruses, malware and trojans - but some trojan virus had taken over within a couple of hours and left my PC with no option but to reformat and install over again. I did this, and after 2 days of reinstalling and reconfiguring it crashed suddenly - which leads to believe that the virus went deep into my system. This is a mail server PC and posting PC.

Not a big deal, but I wanted to warn those of you who do not have constant PC protection, and even if you do be careful with these signs. It can have these consequences. Not too fun and very frustrating.

Take care and safe surfing :)

  1. Buy a MAC - No "Pop Up" anything!!

No Worms, Trojans, Viruses, Adware, or Spyware - ZERO!!

    Worth every dollar you earn.
PeeCee's are cheap? The hidden cost of keeping up with "constant PC protection" is endless.

"Once you go Mac you'll NEVER go back!" : ) ~

  2. I am seriously considering it - I know we chatted about this before. I am getting there. I tell you after 4 days of installing and reconfiguring, I have about had it. The learning curve is all I am dreading. I have used one before at a job but even then had problems. Always been a PC guy - but "always doesn't mean forever!" Thanks, Johnnie :)

  4. Go to the Apple Store where you live. They will let you use it for HOURS (all day of you really want to) with NO pressure to purchase ANYTHING.

Play with it (no pun intended) and try out all the software that comes with it. The Apple Store will even let you install YOUR favorite program to see how it runs!

If you need help or have questions just ask me. I was a PeeCee guy for all my life. I made the switch 3 years ago and never looked back! I always wondered what took me so damn long!

My entire family has switched - since then I get NO more phone calls about this or that!!

The the Apple slogan says: "It just works!"

  5. I scan regularly using Bit Defender, Trojan Scan Online, House Call and had Spybot installed. Spybot I will not install anymore - it takes over the system. I had more errors last time around. Someone mentioned Kapersky was good. I may go that route too. If, i do not go MAC. I have four PCs in front of me all day and the main one I do most graphics and web work with email is the one that got it.

Thanks for the link to Malwarebytes - I will check that out - I normally scan online - I hate anti-virus programs - they take over your PC. Didn't have one for 3 years and scanned online only and regularly and did just fine - I think these virus writers are getting smarter.

  9. Thanks for the original post, Glenn. I just picked up a Mac mini this week, as it is a good entry level machine for now. I couldn't shell out the dollars for a Macbook Pro or iMac, so I settled for this unit instead so I can learn the Mac world of computing for now. I too have just about had it with the alternative. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have done reformatting across my years of using Win systems.
