Dreamland

Back in 1980 while visiting my brother in San Francisco he asked me to attend a party at Dreamland with him. I was excited because I had read a few things about this club in a few magazines – it was suppose to be a club/disco done right. Not only did I witness Madleen Kane at her best but found one of the most exciting dance floor experiences.

I was not surprised to find that not only my expectations were met but exceeded. The room was incredible. Very posh and styled towards the most elite but exciting disco experience with great detail.

The night I celebrated Howard Merrit was working the room – and that he did – I think I danced to the longest version of “Working The Midnight Shift” by Donna Summer I had ever heard. Complete with effects from several other electronic cuts.

I have posted these images, which are from the booklet, which was available at the door on the way out of the club. This was a great experience in clubland as many of you may have your own. Most of my memories of this club are too remarkable to put into words. I attended Dreamland many other nights during 1980 and always left in a drenched sweat and a smile.

Thanks to the individuals who put this club experience together - it seemed as though it was for the experience and not to make a quick buck - as many theme clubs sometimes do.

I would die to have heard that extended Midnight Shift! You know any good extended version out there? I have only heard the LP version, a classic! That arpegiated keyboard bass is one of the best lines ever!!
