  3. Yes. They were the places to find the 12" single section. I remember in 1978 when Tower Records here in San Diego had their Disco 12" section and it was 2 rows - at $1.99 a piece. Then, when the fever hit - it went up to a whole kiosk of about 16 rows and $3.99 a 12" single. Amazing!

  4. in the 90's I remember buying records from tower (hip hop and R&B) for 4.99, then a year later to 5.99 then a year later they switched to CD singles..and the rest was history :)

  5. Amazing!

I used to work for The Wherehouse back in 1981 - I used to keep the Disco Section (or what was left of it at the time) in order. Singles like "(I Like) What Your Doing To Me" by Young and Company and "Take Your Time" by SOS Band were the only singles that moved back then. And believe it or not, LPs by Madleen Kane and Claudja Barry were popular at my location for some reason. Go figure.

  7. I always thought it would be great - most of the time it was inventory: counting cassettes and LPs. Kinda drab. Once in a great while you would get some interaction with a hardcore fan of your music genre - but it was kinda interesting. The many years of spinning in the clubs at the start of 1980 - 1992 were the best parts of any job I had in music. :)
